After leaving university, I got my dream job at Cambridge Technology Partners (CTP).
But it didn’t stay long as the internet bubble popped, and CTP decided to lay off 50% of the employees, including me.
But the good thing was that I saved three months of my salary.
Honestly, I never had that much money, so I thought, why not give myself a chance and travel to Switzerland?
I must say traveling to Switzerland was the best thing that happened to me at that time.
I got one of my best jobs, and my team was one of the best teams I’ve ever worked with. As a junior in the field, this gave me a fantastic kickstart to my future engineering career!
Why it was a dream team:
🐉 Brilliant people:
→ I had the privilege of working with a team of highly skilled and motivated professionals.
→ Each team member brought their unique expertise, personalities, and perspectives to the table, creating a dynamic and inspiring work environment.
🐉 Great cooperation:
→ The spirit of collaboration and teamwork was deeply ingrained in the company culture. I still consider everyone on this team a friend for life.
→ Colleagues were always willing to lend a helping hand, share knowledge, and work together towards common goals. I was never afraid to ask for help!
🐉 Specific and clear goals:
→ The company and, even more importantly for me at the time, our team had a clear vision and well-defined goals.
→ This clarity helped me align my efforts and contributions to the overall objectives of the team and organization, ensuring that my work had purpose and direction.
→ I was empowered to work outside my job title to contribute toward company-wide impact initiatives!
As they say, “When one door closes, another door opens.”
Getting laid off and getting a dream job reminds me of that.
So whenever you’re going through tough times, remember that the best is yet to come.
Believe in yourself and keep working hard towards your goal 🔥
