Embracing the Power of Change: My Top Inspirations from #AgileByExample 2024!

šŸ’ŽšŸ’ŽšŸ’ŽšŸ‰

This year's @AgileByExample conference was a treasure trove of insights, shared experiences, and meaningful conversations that left me soaring with new ideas!

Letā€™s unleash some of the top sessions that fueled my passion for Agile and leadership!

Key Learnings & Highlights:

šŸ’š Mastering the Flux Mindset with Susanne & Sylvia Taylor: Itā€™s all about your mindset. The world is changing faster and faster ā€“ see it as opportunity! Itā€™s not about career climbing anymore; itā€™s about collecting a portfolio of talent. Use your trove of strengths to explore new roles you havenā€™t considered yet. Say goodbye to "Agile Coach" roles and hello to opportunities like "Engineering Management."

šŸ”„ Agile Yacht Manufacturing with Karol Starzak: Agile isnā€™t just for software! Karol showed us how Agile methodologies can scale hardware-focused organizations too ā€“ yachts, anyone?

ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ Leveling Up with Stefan Stojkovic: Lean Change & Play: This session was so much fun!

Adopt an experimental mindset:

1. Hypothesize by building an option

2. Solve a specific problem

3. Contribute to progress

4. Measure the impact

Then, keep what works and toss what doesnā€™t. Donā€™t even use the word "Agile" ā€“ let your teams naturally evolve by experimenting! They will grow toward agility without knowing it!

šŸ§  The Neuroscience Behind Perceived Value by Joanna Plaskonka: Stop selling features ā€“ start selling experiences! Joannaā€™s session emphasized the power storytelling through our subconscious minds. Donā€™t be afraid to throw out unnecessary features and focus on crafting a meaningful narrative.

šŸ„šAgile Leadership & Technical Mastery with Marcin Kepka: Embrace the journey ā€“ the highs and lows on the path toward excellence are what make Agile leadership powerful and authentic.

šŸ’Ž Fostering Happiness in Agile Teams with Evelyn Accun Roos: Chocolate makes everyone happy! Evelyn emphasized that instead of simply handing out feedback forms, leaders should actively bring joy into their teams' work lives by being mindful of the ā€œhappiness hormonesā€ ā€“ dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins.

šŸŖ½AI, HR & Organizational Design with Craig Larman: Leaders, itā€™s time to level up your engineers to be GLAD engineers (Generative AI & LLM-assisted development). Single-specialist roles are at risk of being replaced by AI ā€“ embrace multidisciplinary growth!

šŸ’ŖšŸæ The Power of Discussion: A Thoughtful Panel: Conflicting convictions can coexist when leaders are leveled up and embrace differentiation. Two contrasting visions for the future of companies and humanity were shared in the panel, and my favorite humanistic perspectives came from Susanne Taylor, Sylvia Taylor, and Woody Zuill.

Leaving #AgileByExample, Iā€™m inspired to embrace the flux, find balance between tech and humanity, and cultivate joy in every team I coach and lead.

šŸ”„ Remember, Agile is more than a framework ā€“ itā€™s a human-centric journey toward purpose, connection, and transformation.

šŸ’š Thank you to the incredible speakers for sharing your wisdom, and to the entire AgileByExample community for making it an unforgettable experience!

Letā€™s keep the conversation flowing ā€“ what inspired you the most from this conference?
